This Tzatziki Sauce recipe is so easy and delicious! It’s a creamy, tangy and refreshing cucumber yogurt dip that adds so much flavor to any Mediterranean dish!
I could literally drink this tzatziki sauce right from this bowl. It’s that good.
If you’ve never tried tzatziki sauce you are missing out big time. Tzatziki sauce (pronounced zat-Zee-kee) is the most delicious creamy, tangy and refreshing cucumber and yogurt sauce that is common in Greek and Mediterranean cuisine. It’s full of flavor and spiced with garlic, dill and lemon. I love pairing it with spicy foods, because it has such a wonderful cool and refreshing flavor.
Homemade Tzatziki Sauce
Homemade Tzatziki Sauce is WAY better than from the store and even most restaurants in my opinion. You have complete control over your flavors and texture by making it at home, so you can make it really thick and chunky, or thin and smooth, it’s up to you. I like mine in between – thin enough to pour over my food, but thick enough to be creamy and full of delicious flavor. How do you like your tzatziki sauce?
Plus, did I mention this sauce was SUPER easy to make? So why not make it homemade?!

Tips for Making the Best Tzatziki Sauce
- Remove the seeds of the cucumber with a small spoon, so the sauce doesn’t get too watery
- Use fresh herbs (dill is traditional but you can also add mint)
- Use the fine tips of the dill leaves and discard the thick stems
- Use fresh lemons for the lemon juice
- Let the tzatziki sauce refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving to give the flavors a chance to develop

Easy Tzatziki Sauce Recipe
This Tzatziki Sauce recipe is so easy and delicious! It’s a creamy, tangy and refreshing cucumber yogurt dip that adds so much flavor to any Mediterranean dish!
- Prep Time: 10 minutes
- Total Time: 10 minutes
- Yield: 2 1/2 cups tzatziki sauce 1x
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups plain Greek yogurt
- 1 English cucumber, peeled and seeds removed
- 1 lemon, juiced (zest is optional)
- 2 tablespoons fresh dill, finely chopped
- 3 fresh mint leaves, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste
- pinch of pepper
Instructions
- In a food processor, grate the peeled and seeded cucumber. Remove and place the grated cucumber on paper towels. Place more paper towels on top and press down to absorb the water from the grated and diced cucumber. Leave for 5 minutes to continue to absorb the water.
- Add all of the ingredients including the grated cucumber back into the food processor and mix until well combined. You can just quickly pulse for a thicker, chunkier tzatziki sauce, or puree for a minute or two for a less chunky (still thick and creamy) tzatziki sauce.
- Adjust salt and pepper to taste.
Notes
*You can easily make this in a bowl without a food processor if you wish! Just mix everything by hand, it will be a little thicker and more textured, but still tastes just as good!
*If you prefer your sauce to have more texture, just finely chop the cucumber instead of grating it and mix the sauce in a bowl by hand!
I’ve never made tzatziki sauce before, but this truly was extremely easy when using a food processor. Very delicious with the Buddha bowls recipe.

Isn’t it so easy in the food processor?! Happy to hear you liked it!
I made this sauce last night and it was a quick, delicious accompaniment to my mezze platter. Since I didn’t have fresh dill, I used dry and it was still fabulous. Thanks for the combination of flavors. The garlic was perfect in it, along with the mint. Thank you!
